Recreational Water—Swimming Pool Sand Filters
The most important step in a using ZeoSand is to follow the installation instructions.
The sand filter owner’s manual gives the weight of sand needed. For filters requiring less than 500 pounds of sand, use a ZeoSand replacement ratio of 1 pound of ZeoSand to replace 2 pounds of sand. For larger filters, use the following table:

Fewer pounds of ZeoSand can be used, because a cubic foot of ZeoSand weighs 55 pounds while a cubic foot of sand weighs 100 pounds.
Many larger filters have filter media recommendations with and without pea gravel. ZeoSand has been successfully used for many years with and without pea gravel. Follow the filter manufacturer’s instructions. The consensus of our customers favors the use of pea gravel that serves to protect the laterals and to disperse the water flow.
After passing the requirements of NSF/ANSI Standard 50, ZeoSand is certified and listed by Water Quality Association for use as a sand replacement in any sand filter that is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 50. ZeoSand is certified at a sand replacement ratio of 50 pounds of ZeoSand to 100 pounds of sand.
